Waterfalls

Nestled against the ancient trunk and cradled beneath the branches of a historic Royal Windsor Park Oak, which took root in the year 1937, stands Waterfalls Cottage. This charming abode was reconstructed using remnants from a pioneer cottage. Perched gracefully upon a ridge near the western boundary of the property, the cottage takes its name from the nearby waterfalls that cascade down the adjacent creek.

The story of Waterfalls begins with James (Jim) Hunter, who arrived in Basket Range in the 1870s. By 1882, Jim had managed to save enough funds to purchase his own parcel of land. On this very land, he built a two-roomed slab house right next to the creek, situated just to the left of the present entrance to Waterfalls. In the mid-1880s, Jim started on the construction of the house that we now recognise as Waterfalls, high on the hillside overlooking the original homestead.

The property changed hands in 1938, transitioning to W. J. Burdett, the man who also built Pickers Hut, and eventually, it found its way into the care of the Bishop family. Sadly, the cottage had remained uninhabited for many years, falling into a state of disrepair. However, in 1992, the Bishop family embarked on a mission to restore the cottage. The restoration paid homage to the original design of the cottage, with the thoughtful addition of a well-lit kitchen at the rear.

Today, Waterfalls stands as a luxurious and romantic Airbnb. It is a sanctuary where you can fully immerse yourself in history, where the echoes of the past can be seen and felt in every nook.
